Called it on multiple sites. Now, did anyone rip the source code?

It was their fault for creating a game like that in the first place. Even on Youtube I do not go for any fanmade games to which I ignore all playthroughs of hacked games. Personally I support Nintendo on this.

If it were just a mere picture, I would be slightly more sympathetic.

I disagree. This is a fan-made game with original assets and nothing stolen. Although copyright law does not cover it, I think it should if it is non-profit. With all the debate going on I do home it happens soon.

The character, story, ect are part of Nintendo's IP.

It's really a joke how anyone thinks they can get away with this kind of thing after so many others have been taken down.

Everyone thinks they're the one to succeed where all others failed.

Well, actually, more likely, they probably made it without knowing that similar projects have been taken down.

Not every IP holder is dickish about stomping out fan-based projects that pose no real threat to their bottom lines. Hell, companies like Lucasfilm have made long-standing policy of allowing pretty much every form of fan expression under the sun, even down to entire fan-made TV series. I'll never understand attitudes like Nintendo's, or Squeenix's over the Chrono Trigger sequel, or anyone along those lines, as all they're basically doing is alienating the very people who spend the most money on their products in the first place.

Nintendo is a corporation, you will never win. Refusal might grant you a lawsuit.

Game looked great.

Considering how many sequels & remakes Square does it actually would potentially hurt their bottom line to let things like this slide.

Yeahhh. Nice thought, but I don't blame Nintendo. It's still, basically, a free version of their game being made available without their permission, right?

Either way, I agree with others. Supporting Nintendo on this one.

Super Mario Crossover is the next on the list. Site will likely get taken down at any moment.

They basically went in expecting this, but did it anyways because they love the franchise.

They tweeted about it saying that they didn't mind that Nintendo took it down.

Non-profit doesn't make everything ok. There's no real way to spin remaking a game someone sells and then giving it away for free on the market with absolutely no permission or even contact with the IP holder as "Fair Use".

Let's say you're a painter. You make a living selling prints of your work. You paint a nice black and white painting. You start selling it online. Someone takes your image, recreates it in an alternative production method but the end result could trick most people into thinking it's the original... and then the person starts giving this recreation of your work, work that you sell to make a living from, for free.

That's fair use to you? The person didn't make money, so the only possible option is no harm no foul, right? If someone takes an original creation that you sell, copies it and gives it away for free, that can't possibly have a negative impact on you, right?

Copyright law is actually pretty nice about blatant knock offs being ok as long as you don't literally/technically copy stuff. You can't make a story about Luke Skywalker who uses the Force but you can totally make a story about Duke Startraveler who uses the Essence. I don't know why people always feel like they have to be so literal when they could make a spiritual successor and at the end of the project have something they can fully claim, distribute, and exploit without fears of some company shutting them down.

Perhaps if these people spent time trying to apply to Nintendo then they can put those skills to good use.

Holy cow, how can people be so sour and condescending towards a person just because they made something based on something they love?

Specially when said person hasn't been conflictive at all.

Called what? You'd have to be pretty ignorant to think this would go untouched by Nintendo. They sell the Legend of Zelda on the Nintendo eshop for $4.99, they are absolutely not going to let people play it for free on their browser, 3D or otherwise. Even the makers knew this would happen, they just wanted to show that the game could be done.

I played the game for a few minutes, it was OK, but not as good as the original 2D. The hit detection was awkward and the transition from place to place was too smooth so monsters would appear outside of their location and then disappear when you walked into it making your target vanish and new monsters spawn right in front of you killing you. The game either needed tighter programing to make sure monsters were restricted to a boundary or just make the game an open world so monsters don't pop in and out.
