Kagerou Project Gets 3rd Album After 4 Years

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

The official website of musician JIN and illustration Sidu's Kagerou Project multi-media franchise announced on Tuesday that the franchise will receive a third music album titled Mekakucity Reload. The site is streaming a teaser video for the album, with illustrations by Sidu.

The video also notes that the franchise's upcoming new anime project is "in progress," and asks fans "to wait a little longer." The new anime is also tentatively titled Mekakucity Reload.

The first album, Mekakucity Daze, shipped in 2012. The second album, Mekakucity Records, shipped in 2013.

JIN's Kagerou Project began as a Vocaloid song series that JIN wrote and composed in 2011. JIN launched the Kagerou Daze light novel series in May 2012, with illustrations by Sidu. Kadokawa published the novel series' seventh volume in August 2016. Mahiro Satou launched a manga adaptation of the novels in Kadokawa's Monthly Comic Gene magazine in June 2012, and Kadokawa published the manga's ninth compiled book volume on March 27. The series inspired a 12-episode television anime adaptation titled Mekaku City Actors in 2014.

The franchise inspired the Kagerou Daze -in a day's- MX4D film, which opened in Japan last November. Sidu, the illustrator of the novels and music videos, made her directorial debut with the film.

Yen Press publishes both the light novel series and manga in North America. Crunchyroll streamed the Mekaku City Actors anime as it aired in Japan.
