Square Enix revealed on Tuesday that it is recruiting scenario and planning staff members for a new work related to the NieR series. The position will entail writing sub-quest stories and planning for the main story, NPC writing and design, and writing for item descriptions and in-game text.

Relatedly, an official Twitter account for two stage productions based on NieR:Automata opened this week. The first is a stage play titled Butai Shōnen YoRHa Ver.1.0, pictured in the poster below. It will run from January 31 to February 4 for nine performances at Tokyo's Rikkoukai Hall.

The second is a musical titled Ongakugeki YoRHa Ver.1.2, pictured in the poster below. It will open from February 9-13 for eight performances at Tokyo's Theater 1010. Matsuda Ichidai is directing the musical.

Game developer Yokō Tarō describes them as spinoff stories. Keiichi Okabe is composing music for both.

The most recent installment in the series is NieR:Automata. The game shipped for the PlayStation 4 in Japan on February 23, followed by North America on March 7 and Europe on March 10. Square Enix also released the game on PC via Steam on March 17. As of May, the game had sold 1.5 million copies worldwide.

The game is a follow-up to the 2010 NieR game, and reunited the director, producer, and composer. Freelance developer Taro Yoko (Drakengard series, NieR) helmed the project as director at Platinum Games. Yosuke Saito (Dragon Quest X, NieR) was credited as producer, and Keiichi Okabe (Drakengard series, NieR, Yuki Yuna Is a Hero) composed the music. Takahisa Taura (Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Anarchy Reigns) handled the game design, and Akihiko Yoshida (Bravely Second, Final Fantasy XIV) designed the game's characters. J'Nique Nicole and Emi Evans each sang a version of the game's theme song.
