Land of the Lustrous Anime Listed With 12 Episodes

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

The official website for the television anime of Haruko Ichikawa's Land of the Lustrous (Hōseki no Kuni) manga revealed its DVD and Blu-ray Disc home video releases on Saturday. The site is listing six sets of two episodes each for a total of 12 episodes.

The first home video release is slated for release in Japan on December 20. The site is streaming a commercial for the home video release.

The series premiered in Japan on Saturday. The anime is streaming on Anime Strike in the United States, and on HIDIVE in the United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Central America, and South America. Sentai Filmworks is also planning a home video release.

Sentai Filmworks describes the story:

In the distant future, microscopic organisms have left the planet desolate and given way to a new life form: Houseki. However, all is not peaceful. The 28 Houseki must fight against the Moon Dwellers, beings who attack them without discrimination and use their shattered bodies as decorations. For this reason, each Houseki is assigned a role, whether it be a fighter or a medic. Phosphophyllite, or Phos, is the youngest of their kin, and has not been given an assignment due to a lack of skill. Everything changes when Kongou, the leader of the Houseki, assigns Phos the task of creating an encyclopedia of natural history.

Takahiko Kyōgoku (Love Live! School idol project, GATE) is directing the anime at the Orange CG animation studio (CG in new Evangelion, Macross Frontier movies). Toshiya Ono (Suite Precure, Gatchaman Crowds, The Perfect Insider) is in charge of the series scripts. Asako Nishida (Simoun, Love Live! School idol project, Active Raid) is designing the characters.
