Pacific Rim Uprising Director: Crossover With Godzilla/King Kong is 'Possible'

posted on by Karen Ressler

Pacific Rim Uprising director Steven S. DeKnight said in an interview with Collider at New York Comic Con that there is a "possibility" of a crossover between Pacific Rim and King Kong or Godzilla. All three titles are produced by Legendary.

DeKnight's comment was in response to a question asking if the Pacific Rim Uprising film will have any "Easter Eggs" tying it to Legendary's Monster Universe film franchise, which includes King Kong and Godzilla. His full response is below:

I won't say there's an Easter Egg but there's been a lot of discussion about that possibility [of crossing over]. Look I think it would be fantastic to have the Pacific Rim universe join Legendary's Monster Universe, it seems like a natural step. And part of the big overall plan after the third movie we've talked about is that could happen, it's always a possibility. It's by far not a certainty; it's merely theoretical at this point, but as a fan myself I would love to see that happen.

Pacific Rim Uprising, the first sequel to 2013's Pacific Rim film, will open on March 23, 2018. Godzilla: King of Monsters, the sequel film to Legendary Pictures' 2014 Godzilla movie, is slated for March 22, 2019. The planned Godzilla vs. Kong crossover film from director Adam Wingard is slated for May 22, 2020.
