Mobile Suit Gundam Seed (TV)

The name "Freedom" for Kira Yamato's mid-series Gundam upgrade was actually opposed by most of the creative staff. However, Director Mitsuo Fukuda, who came up with the name after being inspired by Gundam's original working title of "Freedom Fighter," stuck to his guns and used the name in spite of everyone because he thought anyone could remember it after hearing it just once.

The name "Justice" for Athrun Zala's mid-series Gundam upgrade was also Director Mitsuo Fukuda's idea. Having decided to call the other Gundam "Freedom," he thought about what would make a suitable counterpart and decided that "Justice" was perfect.

Kira was based on Tatsuya Fujiwara's portrayal of Nanahara Shuuya in the first Battle Royale movie.

Cagalli, Fllay and Lacus, the three female leads of the series, only ever exchange 1 scene of dialoge to each of the other two throughout the series' 50-Episode run.

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED marks the first time in the franchise's history that a Gundam television series was not named after the main character's mobile suit. Every Gundam series prior—from Mobile Suit Gundam up through Turn-A Gundam (including G Gundam, where the G is an abbreviation for Domon Kasshu's God Gundam) and even the feature film Gundam F91—has been named after one of the Gundams used by the main character. Yet SEED joins the company of the Gundam OVAs and the Char's Counterattack film in bucking that tradition.

The final battle of the war in Gundam SEED takes place on September 27th, CE 71. Coincidentally, the final episode of Gundam SEED aired on September 27th, 2003.

Andy Waltfeld's LaGOWE mobile suit is based off of a mecha of the same name (Ragou) from the series Gear Fighter Dendoh. Dendoh and Gundam SEED share the same director, Mitsuo Fukuda.

The METEOR addons for Freedom & Justice Gundam are a reference to the main ship of Gear Fighter Dendoh, also called METEOR.

ZAFT's two fortresses, Boaz and Jachin Due, are named for the two pillars in Solomon's Temple: Boaz and Jachin. The Due part of Jachin Due most likely comes from the fact that it is the second (deux, duo) fortress erected near the PLANTs.

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED is the first AU Gundam series to use the tag "Kidou Senshi".

Andrew Waltfeld's character alias, the "desert tiger" is a possibble reference to the German field marshall Erwin Rommel who commanded the Afrika Corps. in northern Africa with outsanding leadership he earned the title "Desert Fox"

Rie Tanaka - the Japanese voice actress (seiyuu) who does both the speaking voice and the singing voice for Lacus Clyne in the original Japanese version of Gundam Seed and Gundam Seed Destiny, and Meer Campbell in the original Japanese version of Gundam Seed Destiny - sings the theme/insert song, "Eternal," on a television commercial for the Japanese version of Mabinogi, a popular South Korean MMORPG from Nexon. According to reports by Japanese fans and Rie Tanaka herself, the Mabinogi commercial, along with the song "Eternal" sung by "Lacus Clyne," began airing December 12, 2006 on various channels and networks in Japan, including major ones like Fuji TV and TV Tokyo, in the afternoon, evening and night hours.

Canadian actress/voice actress Chantal Strand dubs in English the speaking voice of Lacus Clyne in Gundam SEED and Gundam SEED Destiny. (Jillian Michaels dubs in English the singing voice of Lacus Clyne.) Rie Tanaka does the original Japanese speaking and singing voices of Lacus Clyne in Gundam SEED and Gundam SEED Destiny. Returning the favor, Rie Tanaka dubs in Japanese the voice of Cassie in the US-Canadian children's TV animated series, Dragon Tales (1999-2005). Chantal Strand does the original English voice of Cassie in Dragon Tales.

ZGMF-X10A Freedom and ZGMF-X09A Justice's Additional Weapon System M.E.T.E.O.R. was also named after T.M.Revolution's insert song, "Meteor" for when Kira Yamato's Freedom Gundam first appeared in Episode 35.

In another reference to Gear Fighter Dendoh, Dearka Elsman calls Mu La Flaga "ossan" ("old man") in Phase 44, while Mu replies with, "ossan ja nai!" ("I'm not an old man!"). The exact same exchange was made between Ginga Izumo and Susumu Kirakuni in Episode 37 of Dendoh.
