Momoiro Clover Z to Sing for Bodacious Space Pirates

5 female idols to contribute opening, ending songs for January space opera anime

The five-member female idol group Momoiro Clover Z appeared as surprise guests at a Tokyo advance screening for the Bodacious Space Pirates (Mōretsu Pirates) television anime series on Thursday. The idols then announced that they will be contributing the opening and ending theme songs for the January anime. The opening theme "Mōretsu Uchū Kōkyōkyoku - Dai-Shichi Gakushō' Mugen no Ai'" (Extreme Space Symphony's Movement VII "Infinite Love") and ending theme "Lost Child" will be on the group's seventh single when it goes on sale on March 7.

Ken'ichi Maeyamada wrote, composed, and arranged the opening song, while Yuho Iwasato wrote the ending song with composer/arranger NARASAKI. The group's original six-member Momoro Clover lineup sang ending theme songs for Dragon Crisis! and Yosuga no Sora.

An anime adaptation of Yuichi Sasamoto's Mini-Skirt Uchū Kaizoku (Mini-Skirt [Space] Pirates) space-opera novels was first revealed in 2009 for release this year. The anime studio Satelight relaunched the television project under the new Mōretsu Pirates title at Tokyo Anime Fair last year.

The story centers around a spirited high school girl named Marika. She keeps herself busy with the space yacht club and her part-time job at a high-class retro café. One day, two people suddenly appear and claim to be subordinates of her dead father. They demand that she assume command of the space pirate ship Benten Maru. A privateer ship's compact was made during a war of independence a century ago, and according to that compact, the ship must be inherited by the captain's next direct descendant. Marika finds herself embarking on a new life as a space pirate.
