Kyoto Animation to Publish Kyōkai no Kanata Light Novel

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Nagomu Torii's work won Kyoto Anime Awards' honorable mention in 2011

Kyoto Animation opened an official website for Nagomu Torii's Kyoto Animation Award submission on Monday. Kyōkai no Kanata (Beyond the Boundary) received an honorable mention in the novel category of the awards program last year. The studio plans to release the light novel for 680 yen (about US$9) in early June.

The story follows a high school sophomore named Akihito Kanbara. Although the boy appears human, he is half yōmu and invulnerable to wounds because he can heal quickly. One day, Akihito meets freshman Mirai Kuriyama when it seems she is about to jump from the school rooftop. Mirai is isolated because of her ability to manipulate blood, which is unique even among members of the spirit world. Disturbing events begin to unfold after Akihito saves Mirai.

A 30-second television commercial for Torii's story also began streaming this week.

Kyoto Animation confirmed in December that an anime adaptation of Torako's Chū-2 Byō Demo Koi ga Shitai! (I Have Adolescent Delusions, But I Want to Love!) romance novel is in the works. The novel also received an honorable mention in the first Kyoto Animation Award program in 2010.
