Toei's Sentai Akibaranger Parody Gets 2nd Season

posted on by Egan Loo
Live-action spoof of Toei's own Super Sentai franchise premiered last April

The official website for the Hikōnin Sentai Akibaranger (Unofficial Sentai Akibaranger) live-action television series confirmed that production on a second season has been green-lit. The announcement was first made at the "Chōeiyūsai Kamen Rider x Super Sentai Live & Show 2013" event on Friday. The first season of this live-action spoof of Toei's own Super Sentai franchise premiered last April.

The staff of the first Akibaranger season boasted several live-action special-effects (tokusatsu) and anime veterans, such as director Ryuta Tazaki (Kamen Rider), director/character designer Keiichi Satou (Karas, Tiger & Bunny), writer Naruhisa Arakawa (Kamen Rider Kuuga, Spice and Wolf, Steel Angel Kurumi), and composer Kenji Kawai (Ghost in the Shell, Death Note, Eden of the East). Voice actresses Maaya Uchida (Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!), Halko Momoi (Lovedol ~Lovely Idol~), and Rica Matsumoto (Pokémon's Ash Ketchum/Satoshi) also made appearances in the program.

Hikounin Sentai Akibaranger follows delivery man and Super Sentai fan Nobuo Akagi, martial artist Mitsuki Aoyagi and cosplayer Yumeria Moegi after they are recruited by cafe owner Hiroyo Hakase to become the Unofficial Sentai Akibaranger. They protect Tokyo's Akihabara otaku shopping district from the evil Malseena and the Stema Otsu Corporation, despite the fact it is all a ruse.
