posted on by Sarah Nelkin
All profits from auction go to helping those affected by the 2011 quake & tsunami

Chihayafuru manga creator Yuki Suetsugu (Flower of Eden) is currently hosting an auction that gives the winning bidder the right to appear in the Chihayafuru manga. Suetsugu has listed possible roles as rivals, classmates, karuta teachers, or students, and is open to requests to which character the winner wants to appear with in the same scene. All profits from the auction will go to helping those affected by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami disaster. The bidding began at 5,000 yen (about US$52), but as of Tuesday is at 100,000 yen (about US$1,050). The auction will end on Wednesday at 8:04 p.m.

The auction is being held in affiliation with the Story 311 charity omnibus in which 11 manga creators are participating. Those participating are Satoru Hiura (Hotaru no Hikari), Rinko Ueda (Stepping on Roses), Ume (Tokyo Toybox), Mari Okazaki (Suppli), Keiko Okamoto (Corrector Yui), Riho Sachimi (Roselia Ōkoku Monogatari), Mayu Shinjo (Ai Ore), Nagamu Nanaji (Parfait Tic!), Akiko Higashimura (Kuragehime), Tachibana Higuchi (Gakuen Alice) and Suetsugu. The Stories of 311 charity book tells multiple stories of people who were born in the places affected by the disaster. Originally serialized for free on the website for Kodansha's Kiss magazine, the compiled omnibus was released last Monday. All profits of the book's sales (including digital sales) will go to charity.
