Japanese Poll Ranks Re:Zero Best Anime of Spring 2016

Anime from the Spring 2016 season have been wrapping up one by one. In order to find out which shows captured viewers' hearts the most, the Japanese website Anime! Anime! conducted a “Excellent Anime of Spring 2016” poll that ran from June 27 to July 3. Of the 820 people that participated, about 40% were in their teens. The gender ratio was close to equal, although there were slightly more men than women.

In first place was Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-. It was popular enough that more than 10% of all responders picked it as their first choice. It was more popular among men than women, being the 1st place pick for male voters, while female voters ranked it 9th. The Re:Zero light novel and manga have been licensed by Yen Press and will be released in English beginning in Summer 2016. The anime is available for streaming on Crunchyroll.

In second place was Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress. It was popular regardless of gender, with men ranking it 3rd and women ranking it 2nd. The series will be getting a two-part movie adaptation that will air in theaters in Japan this December and next January. The anime is available for streaming on Amazon Prime.

In third was Bungo Stray Dogs, which was ranked highly in a previous Anime! Anime! poll of Spring 2016 anime that readers were looking forward to. It was released in a split-season format and will resume with episode 13 in October. It is available for streaming on Crunchyroll. The manga has been licensed by Yen Press and will be released in English beginning in December 2016.

Anime! Anime! also conducted a survey on its readers' most anticipated summer anime. The results varied quite a bit from similar polls held on Japanese website Charapedia, where readers couldn't wait for Love Live! Sunshine!!, and right here on ANN, where the second season of Food Wars! claimed the top spot.

This Anime! Anime! survey also ran from June 27 to July 3 and had 820 participants.
