Take a Look Inside an Eva Cockpit at Shinjuku's VR Arcade

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

The world of Evangelion is closer to reality in the new "Evangelion VR: The Tamashii no Za" (Evangelion VR: The Throne of Souls) virtual reality experience opening at Bandai Namco's VR Zone Shinjuku on July 14. In the video, the player pilots Unit-01 alongside two other Eva units in a battle against an invading Zeruel.

The project will be the first VR Eva-piloting experience. The cockpit machines will be able to move, vibrate, and ventilate to capture the experience of piloting an Eva unit. The VR experience will feature the Eva's familiar startup and launch sequence before moving into battle.

The experience is part of Bandai Namco Entertainment's Project i Can, which ran a VR "experience center" at the Diver City Tokyo Plaza in Tokyo from April to October last year.

VR Zone Shinjuku opens to the public on July 14, but had an early opening for press groups on July 12. The arcade is also offering Mario Kart, Dragon Ball, Ghost in the Shell and Gundam attractions as well as a food court and projection mapping.
