Super Sonico Celebrates 10th Anniversary—at Sanrio Theme Park

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

The official mascot of Nitro+ isn't exactly "child friendly." Her selling point is her often barely covered assets, sometimes combined with food items. This is the same character whose April Fool's joke was porny images of her as an infant.

Love her or not, Super Sonico has represented the company for 10 years and recent celebrations include collaborating with Marvelous' Senran Kagura Peach Beach Splash game, a wedding, manga, and merchandise. The company has more in store for the character, but color me surprised when the plans included a party at a theme park.

Namely, Sanrio's Puroland theme park.

The events are in collaboration with the park's Cosplay Festa 8 event. Guests include Super Sonico cheer team captain and voice actor Minoru Shiraishi and actress and cheer team vice-captain Ayano Yamamoto. Both guests will host a talk event at the park on October 21. The talk will be followed by Super Sonico fan meeting with a "Daiichi Uchū Sokudo" (Fastest Speed in Space) tribute band led by Yamamoto and Sanrio characters.

Collaboration goods are also planned so be on the look out for Sonico and Hello Kitty crossovers.

The SoniAni: Super Sonico the Animation television anime premiered in 2014, and Sentai Filmworks released the series on home video in 2015.

Super Sonico inspired her own line of games, as well as figures including a giant 1/2-scale statue. She has also appeared in various games such as Namco Bandai Games' Super Heroine Chronicle and in a promotion for THQ's Saints Row: The Third game.
