Yoshitsugu Matsuoka Returns in Sword Art Online: Memory Defrag App's Interrogation Ad

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Prolific voice actor Yoshitsugu Matsuoka already rapped to promote Bandai Namco Entertainment's Sword Art Online: Memory Defrag iOS and Android game earlier this year. He debuted as an accused criminal in the game's third live-action commercial, which premiered on the official "Sword Art Online Manatsu no Wasshoi!! Game Jōhō Dai-Hōshutsu!!" live-streaming program on Friday. The commercial begins at around the 20:10 mark in the video embedded below.

In the commercial, Matsuoka appears as an accused criminal eating a rice bowl in a police interrogation room. A detective, played by fellow voice actor Nobunaga Shimazaki, is determined to get the alleged perpetrator to confess. Shimazaki says, "You did it!," but Matsuoka replies, "It wasn't me!" Shimazaki then accuses Matsuoka of playing the smartphone game for 365 days. Things heat up as Matsuoka continues to deny the allegations. A pitfall appears under the pair, and they end up underground in another realm with a monster. As the duo fights for survival, the video ends with them saying the name of the game and "Bandai Namco." in voice-over unison.

Matsuoka also appeared on the live-streaming program and discussed making the commercial. At around the 22:00 mark in the video above, a making-of video for the commercial begins.

Shimazaki voices the character Eugeo in the game. To celebrate the commercial's debut, a version of the character in Shimazaki's detective suit will be available in the game. The game's staff will announce details after the commercial premieres on television at the end of August.

The game launched in Japan on August 31, 2016 and in North America on January 23. The game is free-to-play with the option of in-game purchases. The side-scroll-type action RPG features both the television anime's story and an original story. It supports online co-operative play.
