Godzilla is shockingly cute in a new collaboration with Sanrio announced to celebrate the upcoming anime film Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters (Godzilla: Kaijū Wakusei), which is coming to theaters in Japan on November 17. The collaboration features illustrations of the city-destroying kaiju posing alongside the Sanrio characters Hello Kitty, My Melody, Pom Pom Purin, and Little Twin Stars.

The collaboration artwork will be on display from September 1 to 8 in the B1 floor atrium of the Gate City Osaki West Tower in Shinagawa, Tokyo, alongside a 2-meter statue of the version of Godzilla that will be appearing in Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters. Later this fall, various collaboration goods are planned to go on sale, including T-shirts, key chains, can badges, and smartphone cases.

Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters is planned to be the first entry in a trilogy of anime films. The film will open in Japan on November 17, and then it will stream globally on the Netflix service this year.

Kobun Shizuno (Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare and other Detective Conan movies, Fist of the North Star: The Legend of Kenshirô, Fist of the North Star: The Legend of Toki) and Hiroyuki Seshita (Ajin, Knights of Sidonia) are directing the film at Polygon Pictures. Gen Urobuchi (Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Fate/Zero, Psycho-Pass) of Nitroplus is credited with the story concept and screenplay.

Previous Godzilla collaborations with Sanrio have included an appearance by Hello Kitty in the Monster Planet of Godzilla ride at the themepark Sanrio Puroland, a line of keychains, and more. In the past, Sanrio has also done collaborations with Sailor Moon, Yuri!!! on Ice, and many other series.
