RWBY Web Series' Volume 4 Japanese Dub Trailer Streamed

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Warner Bros. Japan's official anime YouTube channel began streaming a trailer and 15- and 30-second versions of a commercial for the fourth volume of Rooster Teeth's RWBY web series on Friday. The fourth volume will have a two-week theatrical screening at the Shinjuku Piccadilly, Cine Libre Ikebukuro, 109 Cinemas Kawasaki, 109 Cinemas Nagoya, Namba Park Cinema, and Movix Kyoto theaters beginning on October 7.

People who purchase advance Movie Ticket cards for the fourth volume's screenings in Japan will receive an original A4-size clear file. Theaters screening the fourth volume will begin offering a limited-edition Blu-ray Disc (seen below) of the installment on October 7. The two-disc release will cost 6,000 yen (about US$55) and include a special case and postcards. Warner Bros. will release the fourth volume in limited-edition and regular Blu-ray Disc and DVD releases on November 29.

Theaters in Japan have been screening episodes — dubbed with an all-star Japanese cast — in batches since November 2015, followed by Blu-ray Disc and DVD releases. The third set of episodes played in Japanese theaters in December.

To mark the upcoming screening, the series is collaborating to offer special food items inspired by the series' characters at various restaurants around Tokyo's Akihabara district from September 9 to October 9. People who order from the tie-up menu will receive a limited-edition postcard. In addition, a RWBY pop-up shop will run at the Shibuya Marui department store from September 22 to October 9.

The seven-disc RWBY Volume 1-3 Blu-ray Set will ship in Japan on September 27. The RWBY Volume 1-3 Best Vocal Album CD shipped on August 30.

Volume 5 of the web series will premiere in North America this fall. Volume 4 of RWBY concluded in February, and a new season of the RWBY Chibi spinoff premiered in May.

The original RWBY web series by late creator Monty Oum follows four girls with unique weapons and powers who are training to hunt supernatural "Creatures of Grimm." The American series premiered in 2013, and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Japan began releasing the series on Blu-ray Disc and DVD in Japan in 2015. Rooster Teeth CEO Matt Hullum confirmed in 2014 that "This is the first time any American-made anime has been marketed to Japan."

Shirow Miwa launched his manga adaptation of the web animated series in Shueisha's Ultra Jump magazine in November 2015 and in February ended it this past February. Viz Media began publishing the manga in the English edition of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine last October. The company will release the first compiled book volume in North America on January 16.
