Kotobukiya's Ikemen Figure Series Reimagines DC's Nightwing, Red Hood

Anime News Network's merchandise coverage sponsored by Tokyo Otaku Mode.

Kotobukiya's Bishōjo line of figures has included DC comic villains like Harley Quinn, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy and heroines Starfire, Raven, Supergirl, and Wonder Woman. The line is particularly popular as it crosses over from strictly anime and manga figures into characters that are more prominent in American pop culture. A glaring omission, however, is that the Bishojo line does not have a male counterpart by Kotobukiya. At least not until now.

Kotobukiya announced the first two figures in its new Ikemen line to the delight of hunky superhero fans everywhere. The first figure is a 1/7-scale sculpt of Batman's former sidekick Dick Grayson as Nightwing.

The figure has alternate face options including an option with and without his domino mask. First edition figures will also come with a third face option where Nightwing appears to be mid-sentence, lips pursed. The figure will be released in March for 8,000 yen (US$71).

The second figure in the line-up is Jason Todd as the Red Hood. Details like price and a release timeline will be announced soon.

The Nightwing and Red Hood figures are based on artwork by illustrator Ricken. Ricken drew covers for Birds of Prey #22 and #23 and is credited as an artist for DC Universe Presents #17 and Volume 3: Black Lightning and Blue Devil, and worked as penciller for Teen Titans #13 and #14. In their profile they list their interests as "masks, capes, and buttocks."

Kotobukiya's Bishōjo line expanded outside DC properties to include Marvel, Tekken, Street Fighter, and American horror film characters. Fans will have to wait and see which guys get the Ikemen treatment next.
