One Piece's Nami Hawks Oranges for Kumamoto Prefecture

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Straw Hat crew member Nami is helping move boxes of Kumamoto Prefecture oranges for the "One Piece Mikan~Nami ga Aishita Mikan~" (One Piece Mandarin Oranges~Name Loves Mandarin Oranges~) campaign.

Kumamoto is known for its mandarin orange production, although the area's output has begun to decrease over the years. Orange farmers were also affected negatively by the Kumamoto earthquake in April 2016. Moved by their plight, Kumamoto native Eiichiro Oda wanted to spread awareness of his home area's oranges throughout Japan. The result is boxes of oranges featuring original artwork.

Nami herself also has a connection with the citrus fruit. Orange is one of her trademarks colors and she also cares for the orange trees from her hometown that were transported onto the ship.

The orange boxes come in two sizes. The first holds between 20 and 24 oranges and shows Nami daydreaming about her life picking oranges as a child. The second box holds 40 to 48 oranges and shows the Straw Hat crew with bushels of the fruit as Nami poses happily. Each box also comes with a postcard featuring the cover image. The smaller box retails for 3,000 yen and the larger box retails for 6,000 yen.

Internet shopping sites like Rakuten are accepting pre-orders and the fruit is scheduled to ship sequentially starting in November.
