Sailor Moon's Naoko Takeuchi Celebrates Haikara-san ga Tooru in Magazine

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

The December issue of Kodansha's Dessert magazine bundled a special bonus booklet for Waki Yamato's Haikara-san ga Tooru manga when it shipped on Tuesday. The booklet features comments from Sailor Moon creator Naoko Takeuchi.

The main feature of the tribute booklet is a "legendary conversation" between Yamato and Takeuchi. Takeuchi is a big fan of Haikara-san ga Tooru, and she shared her thoughts about the manga and its influence on her.

The booklet features tribute manga by Miwa Ueda (Peach Girl), Wataru Yoshizumi (Marmalade Boy), Miho Obana (Kodocha), Yuki Suetsugu (Chihayafuru), Kanako Sakurakoji (Black Bird), Taamo (House of the sun.), and Haruka Mitsui (Hōkago, Koishita.). Kumiko Shiratori of the comedy duo Tanpopo, actor Arata Furuta (live-action 20th Century Boys' Haru), voice actress Saori Hayami (Gekijōban Haikara-san ga Tōru Zenpen - Benio, Hana no 17-sai's Benio), singer-songwriter Mariya Takeuchi (Toki no Tabibito -Time Stranger- theme song), and novelist Nahoko Uehashi (Moribito) contributed to the "Watashi to Haikara-san" (Me and Haikara-san) feature.

In addition, the 84-page booklet includes color illustrations, the beginning of the Haikara-san ga Tooru story, a fashion analysis, a ranking of fans' favorite dialogue and scenes, and other content. The magazine's related Twitter present campaign is offering fans a chance to win one of three Dessert Tosho Cards until November 24.

The all-female Takarazuka Revue theater troupe's musical of Haikara-san ga Tooru is running at Tokyo's Nippon Seinenkan Hall until October 30. An art exhibit for the manga series is running at Tokyo's Yayoi Museum until December 24. The first of two anime film adaptations of Yamato's manga, titled Gekijōban Haikara-san ga Tōru Zenpen - Benio, Hana no 17-sai, will open in Japan on November 11.
