Player Stands By 15 Million Yen Spent on Soon Defunct Idolm@ster: Million Live Game

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

One Idolm@ster: Million Live is standing by their exorbitant spending habits now that their favorite mobile game is shutting down. Twitter user gun_bus revealed in July that they spent more than 15 million yen, equivalent to about US$131,940, on the mobile game over the course of playing it. And considering the months that have passed since then, there's no telling what this fan's real total is.

However, the Twitter user wrote on Monday that they "don't particularly have regrets." gun_bus mentioned playing the soon-ending game's successor, Idol Master Million Live! Theater Days, which launched for iOS and Android devices on June 29. They said the time to be sad will be later.

During its pre-registration period, the Idol Master Million Live! Theater Days game surpassed 1 million pre-registered users. The stage for the new game is a 765 Pro live theater, and it takes place in rooms such as the theater's office, waiting room, and greenroom. The game features the theater clerk character Misaki Aoba. In the game, players can communicate more with certain idols by touching them on screen. The game's solo and unit concerts feature rhythm games.

There are probably countless ways gun_bus could spend another US$130,000 on virtual idols in the new game. Hopefully, for their sake, they invest in a game with more staying power. Or, as some fellow Twitter users said, gun_bus could just buy a Mercedes Benz or a cheap house instead.

Bandai Namco Entertainment announced on Monday that its The IDOLM@STER Million Live! smartphone game is planned to shut down. The game will halt updates and begin disabling features starting in December, but the company will announce a definite date for the shutdown once it has approved a concrete schedule.

The game began its "TH@NK YOU FOREVER!!" campaign on Tuesday to move toward the finale, and it will have the "Thank You! Million Theater Live Final Party!" event in ranking event in mid-November.

Namco Bandai Games released the game in 2013 as a spinoff of the main The IDOLM@STER game series. The game features the 765 Pro characters of the original series, as well as 37 new characters. The game allows players to manage their own idol production company, and raise their idols' skills.

Idolm@ster: Million Live is just the latest victim of an ongoing trend of moe social games shutting down. The Xeen Games' Maji Girl shooting game ended service on Tuesday, and A Team's Hōkago Girls' Tribe battle RPG is shutting down on November 30. Hōkago Girls' Tribe is notable for featuring animation by Yuri!!! on Ice's Sayo Yamamoto and MAPPA and character designs by Summon Night's Shinichirō Ōtsuka.
