Watch Saga Prefecture's Meowth Hot Air Balloon Take to the Skies

Colorful balloons went airborne at Saga Prefecture's International Balloon Fiesta on Wednesday but none were as immediately recognizable as the full-size Meowth balloon. The full-sized rendition of Team Rocket's favorite mode of transportation is the prefecture's special way of honoring the anime's upcoming 1,000 episode.
Crowds of onlookers gathered at the event to witness Meowth's ascent. Team Rocket's talking Pokemon also appeared at an earlier press event with Yoshinori Yamaguchi, the governor of Saga Prefecture. He is serving as the "boss" of the prefecture and renamed Sagaki for the campaign as an allusion to the Japanese name of Giovanni, Team Rocket's head honcho.
The balloon is part of the area's larger "Nyasu Kikyū Saga Shūrai! ~Kikyū no Machi de Sagase! Rocket Danin 1000 Mannin!!~" (Meowth Balloon Saga Invation!: Search in Balloon Town! 10 Million Team Rocket Members!!) campaign that will run until November 26. Team Rocket is looking to recruit 10 million people in Sage Prefecture to join its ranks during the campaign.
Visitors can catch a glimpse of the Meowth balloon until November 5. The 1,000th episode of the Pokémon anime series will air on November 9.
