Moe Culture Featured in Newsweek Japan

posted on by Bamboo Dong
Chronicling its spread around the globe, the pull of Akihibara's moe fan phenomen is the cover story in the magazine's current issue.

With the image of an anime-styled maid prominently displayed on the cover of the 3.21.2007 issue of Newsweek Japan, the focus was on the country's newest export - moe culture. The feature talked about the international popularity of this subculture, with maid cafes popping up in Taipei, Singapore, and even Paris. It also spotlighted a few fans around the globe, like a Parisian collector of Japanese bishoujo figures, and Chinese teens who couldn't tear themselves away from lolicom dating sims.

The article also mentioned the recent sightings of Haruhi Suzumiya artwork used in an anti-violence protest in Gaza.
