Megazone 23 on PS3, Code Geass on DS, Doraemon on Wii

DS tie-in to 28th Doraemon film also coming to Japanese game market

War robots, motorcycle robots, and cat robots are arriving on next-generation games in Japan. Megazone 23, a 1980s virtual-reality/transforming robot anime franchise and a pioneer in the OVA market, returns on September 13 as a Sony PlayStation 3 game titled Megazone 23: Aoi Garland (Blue Garland) from Compile Heart. The 7,140-yen adventure game is based on the original 1985 video, but takes place in a parallel world separate from Megazone 23's two anime sequels. It has three forms of gameplay: a character-interaction adventure mode, a cockpit mode for choosing the plot's route and customizing the Garland motorcycle robot, and a battle mode for combat in the style of the Super Robot Wars role-playing games. A 9,240-yen limited edition will include a production design collection and a DVD with the foreign version of Megazone 23.

Sunrise's Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion robot war franchise fills the gap between the first series and the upcoming sequel with a Japanese Nintendo DS adventure RPG game on October 25. Bandai Namco Games' 5,040-yen offering recreates the first anime story arc with the player filling the shoes of the main lead Lelouch. Players can use Lelouch's Geass ability ("the power of absolute obedience") by speaking orders into the Nintendo DS microphone for onscreen characters and tactical units to obey.

The Japanese game publisher Sega has announced Doraemon Wii: Himitsu Dōgu-Ō Kettei-Sen! (Doraemon Wii: Secret Gadget King Playoff!), the first Nintendo Wii game for the popular robot cat mascot. The Winter 2007 party game uses up to four Wii Remotes to control "secret gadgets" from Doraemon's trademark fourth-dimensional pocket in several mini-games. Another game, Doraemon: Nobita to Midori no Kyojin Den DS (Doraemon: Nobita and the Green Giant's Legend DS), is a 2008 Nintendo DS action game tie-in to the March 2008 movie of the same name.
