Moyoco Anno's Hataraki Man to be Made into Live-Action

posted on by Egan Loo
October drama follows last fall's anime adaptation of manga for men

Hataraki Man (Working Man), Moyoco Anno's male-oriented manga about a workaholic woman, will air as live-action drama starting this October in Japan after an animated turn last fall. Moyoco Anno, the wife of Evangelion creator Hideaki Anno, also created Happy Mania, the Sugar Sugar Rune manga and anime, and the Sakuran manga that inspired this year's live-action movie of the same name. The three volumes of her Hataraki Man manga have already sold over 3 million copies and spawned a popular 11-episode late-night anime series. The manga is still running in Kodansha's Weekly Morning magazine, where it began in 2004.

Miho Kanno (Tomie's title character) will play the lead role of Hiroko, the 28-year-old single editor of the weekly Jidai magazine. Hiroko spends so much time at work that she neglects to eat or date, thus earning her the ironic nickname "Hataraki Man." NTV will serialize the drama at 10:00 p.m. on Wednesdays. Other manga series that have had both hit live-action drama series and hit anime adaptations include Hana Yori Dango (Boys Over Flowers) and Nodame Cantabile.
