The Japanese publisher Kadokawa Shoten has officially announced that the popular boys-love manga Junjō Romantica by Shungiku Nakamura will be made into a television anime. The series is scheduled to debut in 2008. Reports about the series were first leaked in August, when posters to the popular Japanese internet bulletin board system 2ch ("ni-channel") discovered a page on Kadokawa's website that announced the anime. The webpage was removed shortly after its existence was revealed.

Although no cast or broadcast network has been announced for the anime yet, Higurashi no Naku Koroni (When They Cry - Higurashi director Chiaki Kon has signed on to direct the series. The anime will be produced by Studio DEEN.

Following its debut in 2002, the Junjō Romantica manga has sold 2.5 million volumes in Japan alone. The first four volumes of manga in the series are available in English from the Tokyopop's Blu label, with the fifth volume scheduled for release in February 2008. The manga is still in circulation in the quarterly manga magazine CIEL Trés Trés, with occasional special installments in the bimonthly magazine Asuka CIEL.
