Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu Light Novel Gets TV Anime (Updated)

Ordinary high school boy falls for closet otaku girl

At its Dengeki 15th Anniversary event in Tokyo this weekend, the publisher MediaWorks has announced that Yūsaku Igarashi's Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu (Haruka Nogizaki's Secret) otaku romance comedy light novel will be adapted as both a drama CD and a television anime series in 2008. The adaptations were announced at the event's Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu Stage show Sunday. Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu is Igarashi's debut work as a novelist, and he will publish a seventh volume on December 10. Manga artist Yasuhiro Miyama is already adapting the story in the magazine Dengeki Moeoh with one compiled volume published.

In the story, Yūto Ayase is an ordinary boy in an private high school with the usual cliques. Haruka, the school's most unattainable girl, is so idolized in the school for both her beauty and smarts that her classmates nickname her Nuit Étoile (The Silver Star of the Night) and Lumière du Clavier (The Shining Princess on the Piano). However, in the school's library, Yūto stumbles across her and her darkest secret — she is a diehard fan of anime, manga, and otaku culture.

Munenori Nawa (D.C.S.S. ~Da Capo Second Season~, Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru) will direct the scripts edited by Tsuyoshi Tama (episode scriptwriter on Azumanga Daioh, Chobits). Satoshi Ishino (Excel Saga, Puni Puni Poemy) will adapt the original character designs from the novel volumes' illustrator, Shaa (Kyōhaku Dogs). Mamiko Noto (X television series' Kotori, Witchblade anime's Masane) leads the cast in both the drama CD and the anime as Haruka, while Wataru Hatano (Basilisk's Chikuma, Toward the Terra's Sam) will play Yūto.
