Zettai Karen Children Manga Gets Spring TV Anime

posted on by Egan Loo
Latest supernatural comedy anime from GS Mikami creator Takashi Shiina

This year's sixth issue (on sale on January 9) of Shogakukan's Weekly Shōnen Sunday magazine will announce that Takashi Shiina's Zettai Karen Children (Absolutely Adorable Children) manga series will be animated for television. The next-issue preview in issue #4/5 (released on December 26) had hinted that there would be a "huge announcement." 11 compiled volumes have been published since the manga began as a one-shot short story in 2003. Shiina's previous hit supernatural comedy manga, GS Mikami: Gokuraku Daisakusen!!, was adapted into an anime series from 1993 to 1994.

The Zettai Karen Children manga centers around three ten-year-old girls who possess some of the world's strongest paranormal powers: Kaoru Akashi with psychokinesis, Aoi Nogami with teleportation, and Shiho Sannomiya with psychometry. BABEL — the "BAse of Backing ESP Laboratory" established by Japan's Ministry of Interior — attempts to convert "The Children" into a military special operations unit. To that end, BABEL saddles a hapless, powerless 20-year-old lieutenant named Kōichi Minamoto with the task of supervising/baby-sitting the three girls with Level 7 powers.

(Shiina has just posted what he says is his "real" New Year's greeting picture with the three girls of Zettai Karen Children on Friday. He had posted just a manga panel as an impromptu New Year's picture in December.)
