Chrome Shelled Regios Light Novels to be Animated

posted on by Egan Loo
Fantasy set in distant future with mobile cities, sword-fighting

The promotional cover wrapper on the next volume of Shūsuke Amagi's Chrome Shelled Regios (Kōkaku no Regios) light novels has confirmed that an anime version is in development. The Japanese publisher Fujimi Shobo will officially ship volume 8, Mixing Note (pictured at right), on March 19. In this school fantasy story set in the distant future, creatures contaminated by pollution have overtaken the land, forcing humanity to live in isolated mobile cities called Regios. One such city named Czerni is a self-contained school in which freshman Reifon Aruseifu has just enrolled. Reifon reluctantly joins the 17th Martial Arts Studies Unit led by the third-year student Nina Antōku and embarks on a series of adventures. Readers voted for this series as the Best Story with an Academic Theme in Kadokawa's 2007 Light Novel Awards.

The light novels have already been adapted into two manga series. The light novels' illustrator Miyū has been drawing first one, simply titled Chrome Shelled Regios, in Dragon Age Pure magazine since April of 2007. It is an original side story that focuses more on Nina, and the first volume (pictured at left) shipped in January. Nodoka Kiyose has been drawing the second manga, Chrome Shelled Regios: Missing Mail, in Monthly Dragon Age magazine since the July issue. This version recounts a slightly different version of Reifon's story, and its first volume will ship in April. Monthly Dragon Magazine is also serializing short text story spinoffs from the main light novels.
