Conan, Shaolin Girl, Sand Chronicles, Shin-chan drop after Golden Week

This year's Detective Conan film, Detective Conan: Full Score of Fear, dropped again from #2 to #4 at the Japanese box office during the May 10–11 weekend after the Golden Week holidays. The film features a previously unreleased song by Zard, the singer of many Detective Conan themes who passed away last May. In its fourth weekend, it added the equivalent of US$1,140,451 on 335 screens (Box Office Mojo) to its US$19,696,921 total to date. The theatrical version of the Aibo television detective series stayed at #1 for a second weekend, despite the openings of Warner Brothers' The Bucket List and TOHO's remake of The Hidden Fortress, The Last Princess.

Shaolin Girl, the loose sequel to Stephen Chow's Shaolin Soccer martial arts comedy film, slipped two spots to #5 with US$985,528 on 312 screens. It now has a gross-to-date of US$11,078,813 after three weeks. The film stars Kou Shibasaki (Battle Royale, Dororo) as the title character. Suna-dokei (Sand Chronicles), the live-action film adaptation of Hinako Ashihara's manga of the same name, fell from #6 to #7 with US$662,912 on 245 screens. It now has a total of US$6,875,643. Viz Media is publishing the English version of the manga, and the manga has already been adapted in a live-action television series with a different cast than the film's.

The 16th Crayon Shin-chan film, Crayon Shin-chan: Chō Arashi wo Yobu Kinpoko no Yūsha, fell from #4 to #8 in its fourth weekend. Mitsuru Hongo, the original director of Crayon Shin-chan (as well as of Outlaw Star and Spirit of Wonder), returned to the franchise for the first time since 1996. The film took in US$614,524 on 294 screens for a US$10,433,339 total haul.
