Zatch Bell Creator Raiku Opts to Leave Shogakukan

Makoto Raiku discussing offers from many other publishers, magazines

Konjiki no Gash!! (Zatch Bell) manga creator Makoto Raiku revealed on his personal blog on May 21 that he is no longer doing work for the publisher Shogakukan and its Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine, his "home" for seven years. He then wrote that he has been busy with email "from very many publishers, manga magazines, and game magazines" to discuss work in the week since that revelation.

While he was still in high school, Raiku debuted in the manga industry with his Bird Man title in Manga Garage in 1991. He then drew Newtown Heroes for the Shōnen Sunday Chō spinoff publication from 1999 to 2000. His most famous work, the Konjiki no Gash!! action manga, ran in Weekly Shonen Sunday from 2001 to 2007 and won the 48th Shogakukan Manga Prize in 2003. Konjiki no Gash!! has since been adapted into anime and games, as well as exported worldwide as Zatch Bell.

Thank you to Kumi Kaoru for the news tip.
