Gash/Zatch Bell Manga Creator Raiku Sues Shogakukan (Updated)

Artist says that publisher lost original color artwork for manga

Manga creator Makoto Raiku is suing his former publisher Shogakukan for 3.3 million yen (about US$31,000) for reportedly losing original artwork for the Konjiki no Gash!! (Zatch Bell) manga. When Konjiki no Gash!! ended last December in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine, he received back his original manga artwork from Shogakukan. However, several color art pieces were reportedly missing. Shogakukan said it would immediately respond to the charge once it receives the legal brief.

Raiku announced on his blog on May 21 that he is no longer doing work for Shogakukan. During the week after he made that announcement, he received a deluge of email messages "from very many publishers, manga magazines, and game magazines" to discuss work opportunities elsewhere.

Update: Weekly Shonen Sunday's name corrected.
