Di Gi Charat's Koge Donbo* to Launch New Manga in July

Naki Shōjo no Tame no Pavane manga set in Meiji-era music school

Di Gi Charat manga creator Koge Donbo will launch a new manga called Naki Shōjo no Tame no Pavane (Pavane for a Dead Girl) in the September issue (on sale on July 30) of Mag Garden's Monthly Comic Blade magazine. (Donbo added an "*" mark to her formal pen name this past April.) The story revolves around a boy and 12 girls at a music school at the end of Japan's Meiji era (or early 20th century).

The manga's title is an apparent wordplay on the Japanese translation for a solo piano piece called Pavane pour une infante défunte (Naki Ōjo no Tame no Pavane or Pavane for a Dead Princess). France's Maurice Ravel (Bolero) composed this piece in 1899, after being inspired by a processional dance called pavane as it was performed by Spanish royalty during the Renaissance.
