Eva:01 is Japan's #4 Selling DVD of 2008's 1st Half

Remake of Gainax series sells 260,000+ copies; five other anime works in top 50

The Special Equipment Edition release of Evangelion: 1.0 You Are [Not] Alone (pictured at right) placed fourth on the Oricon list of the top 50 DVDs sold in Japan from December 24 of 2007 to June 16 of 2008. Brought out on April 25 at a retail cost of 5,985 yen (about US$56.10), the collector's edition set sold 263,395 copies in sales tracked by Oricon. 219,000 of those copies were sold in the first week of its release. In addition to Hideaki Anno's movie itself, the package contained significant extras such as a 35mm film strip clipped from the theatrical release of the movie, an exclusive booklet and box, and a second DVD of commentary, promotional videos, and other supplementary material.

The standard edition of Takashi Miike's live-action Crows Zero prequel (pictured at left) to Hiroshi Takahashi's Crows manga landed at #16 with 130,473 copies. Holding the #26 spot with 88,707 copies and #39 spot with 67,731 copies, respectively, were the first and second volumes of The World of GOLDEN EGGS anime television series. In between those DVDs at #28 was Always: Sunset on Third Street 2's standard edition with 84,196 copies. (Takashi Yamazak's live-action film adapts Ryohei Saigan's San-chōme no Yūhi - Yūyake no Uta manga.)

Fukan Fukei (pictured at right), Ei Aoki's first segment of the multi-part Kara no Kyōkai - the Garden of sinners film series, came in at #40 with 67,021 copies. It was followed by Yoshiyuki Tomino's Mobile Suit Gundam Theatrical Memorial Box at #41 with 64,159 copies sold. Kunihiko Yuyama's Pocket Monsters Diamond & Pearl: Dialga vs. Palkia vs. Darkrai was the last anime in the list at #43 with sales of 62,183 copies. Crows Zero film's premium edition was #43 with 61,765 copies.
