New Ranma 1/2 Short Debuts at Takahashi's Tokyo Event

1st anime in 12 years; Ranma/Inuyasha actor Yamaguchi attends opening

The "It's a Rumic World" exhibition of manga creator Rumiko Takahashi's original artwork opened in Tokyo's upper-class Ginza shopping district on Wednesday with both the previously announced special 30-minute Inuyasha anime short and a new Ranma 1/2 anime short. The Ranma 1/2 short adapts the Akumu! Shunminkō (Nightmare! The Incense of Spring Sleep) story from the manga. This is the first Ranma 1/2 animation produced in 12 years. An opening animation was also made with the characters of Urusei Yatsura, Ranma 1/2, and Inuyasha for the event. The exhibition includes a life-size recreation of the character Kyoko Otonashi's apartment from Maison Ikkoku, the tea kettle and Tendō Dōjō sign from Ranma 1/2, and a traditional red torii gate and a Kirara sculpture from Inuyasha.

The exhibition, with about 150 pieces of original artwork from Takahashi's 30-year career, lasts until August 11. Takahashi, Ranma 1/2 and Inuyasha's main voice actor Kappei Yamaguchi, Shogakukan editor Katsuya Shirai, and the comedy duo Higedanshaku (Renaissance's Yamada Louis LIII and Higuchi-kun) attended the opening ceremony. 34 artists, including Mitsuru Adachi (Touch), Gōshō Aoyama (Detective Conan), Chika Umino (Honey and Clover), Kiyohiko Azuma (Yotsuba&!), and Hiromu Arakawa (Fullmetal Alchemist), drew their own depictions of the alien Lum character from Urusei Yatsura, and their "My Lum" art pieces are being displayed at the exhibition. Both comics and exclusive character goods are being sold onsite.
