Boys on the Run Boxing Manga Gets Movie Next Fall

Kengo Hanazawa to restart manga about ordinary man who picks up boxing

This year's 49th issue of Shogakukan's Big Comic Spirits has announced on Saturday that Kengo Hanazawa's Boys on the Run boxing manga will be adapted as a film for release in Japan next fall. Playwright and director Daisuke Miura will oversee the project, and Ginnan Boyz singer Kazunobu Mineta will play the main character Toshiyuki Tanishi. Tanishi is a 27-year-old man stuck in a company that sells vending machine prizes, until the day he meets an old acquaintance who is now a boxer. Inspired to try boxing himself, Tanishi joins a gym that happens to have a female trainer named Hana. Boys on the Run ran in Big Comic Spirits from 2005 to June of this year, although Hanazawa will restart the manga next spring.
