Kadokawa Tests kadoTV Video Service with Subtitles (Updated)

User-editable subs for FMP, Girls Bravo, Ninomiya, Karin, Stigma, others

The Kadokawa Marketing arm of the Kadokawa Group media conglomerate has begun testing a new video-distribution service called kadoTV on Tuesday. Kadokawa has already put over 70 videos, including some full-length episodes, on its Kadokawa Anime Channel on the separate YouTube service. However, unlike the YouTube channel, kadoTV adds synchronized English or Japanese subtitles underneath its videos. For example, it hosts the first episodes of Full Metal Panic! (link), Girls Bravo (link), Goshūshō-sama Ninomiya-kun (link), H2O ~Footprints in the Sand~ (link), Mushi-Uta (link), Karin (link), and Kaze no Stigma (link), with English subtitles.

In addition, kadoTV allows users to add, copy, and edit subtitles for each video. Users can enter text, set timecodes for each line, and format the text in different colors and sizes. The experimental service run will last from January until the end of February.

Geneon Entertainment (USA) once released Karin and Girls Bravo, while Funimation licensed Kaze no Stigma and has re-released Karin on behalf of Geneon. The Manganovel website allowed users to submit translations for both manga and anime titles in its catalog, but it will end its services on February 27. The Crunchyroll media-distribution website is encouraging its users to submit or edit subtitles for its videos.

Update: The website includes a questionnaire for feedback from its users. Thanks, kokuryu.
