20th Century Boys, Eva:1.0 at Santa Barbara Film Fest

Southern California event to run from January 22 to February 1

The 24th Santa Barbara International Film Festival announced that it will host the American premiere of Yukihiko Tsutsumi's first live-action 20th Century Boys film and the American festival premiere of Hideaki Anno's Evangelion:1.0 You Are (Not) Alone anime film during its January 22-February 1 run. Santa Barbara is located in Southern California just northwest of Los Angeles.

The 20th Century Boys film adapts Naoki Urasawa's suspense manga about a man who realizes that recent world calamities have eerie similarities to idle plans he and his childhood friends made decades ago. The first 20th Century Boys film was previously screened at the American Film Market industry event in November, and Viz Media announced that it will launch its North American release of the manga next month.

Anno and his new studio Khara are remaking his Neon Genesis Evangelion science-fction television series into four new films, of which Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone is the first. The Anime Expo 2008 convention screened the Evangelion 1.0 film last July, and Funimation announced on New Year's Eve that it will release the film in North America this year.
