Options Suggested After Diamond's Order Benchmark Jump

posted on by Egan Loo

When Diamond Comic Distributors confirmed that it is raising its monthly purchase order benchmark for publishers from US$1,500 to US$2,500 per item, several options were suggested by a publisher, a rival distributor, and even Diamond itself. Slave Labor Graphics (SLG) publisher Dan Vado told the Comics Reporter news source that he is launching a website where retailers can directly order his company's products next month. He added that some of the other publishers can list their items on SLG's site. Newsarama noted that Haven Distributors offers a rival service for publishers with no initial benchmark, although "reorders for future books will reflect [the supplier's] sales performance." Diamond itself reiterated to the Comic Book Resources website that it will provide some publishers the "opportunity" to put down US$1,000 as a guarantee that a item will sell above the benchmark, if Diamond disagreed with the publisher's expectations.
