Japanese Box Office, February 21-22 (Updated)

20th Century Boys II stays at #2; Okuribito rises back onto chart

The second film in Yukihiko Tsutsumi's three-part adaptation of Naoki Urasawa's 20th Century Boys manga stayed at #2 on Kogyo Tsushinsha's Japanese box office chart during the February 21-22 weekend. According to Box Office Mojo, 20th Century Boys Part II: Saigo no Kibō earned the equivalent of US$1,949,405 on 374 screens in its fourth weekend for a gross-to-date of US$25,697,336.

Yojiro Takita's live-action Departures (Okuribito) film rose back from #14 to #7, thanks to a renewed campaign on 182 screens in anticipation of its Oscar win on February 22. 24 weeks after its opening, it added US$627,874 to its gross-to-date of US$35,995,278.

Takahisa Zeze's Kansen Rettō film dropped from #7 to #10 in its sixth weekend. This live-action film adaptation of Masasumi Kakizaki's horror manga added US$477,536 to its total of US$19,591,891 on 324 screens.
