Bungaku Shoujo Theatrical Film Anime Confirmed (Updated)

Production I.G to animate Mizuki Nomura's "mysterious school comedy" light novels

The wraparound jacket band on the manga version of Mizuki Nomura's "Bungaku Shōjo" to Shinitagari no Pierrot ("A Literary Girl" and a Clown who dreamed to die) light novel has confirmed on Friday that the franchise is being adapted into a theatrical anime project. More details will be available at the franchise's official website.

The "mysterious school comedy" centers on the unusual members of a high school literary club. Tōko Amano, a high school senior who calls herself the "literary girl" as the club president, is actually a supernatural creature (yōkai) that devours stories — she tears pages from books to munch on them. Her club subordinate is Konoha Inoue, a second-year high school boy who writes stories every day for Amano to eat. He once wrote an award-winning novel, but he wrote it under the penname Miu Inoue so readers thought the author was a mysterious 14-year-old bishōjo novelist. The stress from the novel's fame and its movie and television drama plans turned Inoue in an introverted recluse.

Miho Takeoka illustrates the original nine "Bungaku Shōjo" Series light novels and one short story collection. (Enterbrain's Famitsu Bunko imprint shipped the first light novel in 2006, and the ninth light novel ships at the end of the month.) Rito Kōsaka has been adapting the story as a manga in Square Enix's Gangan Powered magazine and later in Monthly Gangan Joker magazine. Kadokawa Shoten's Beans Ace magazine ran a separate "Bungaku Shōjo" to Oishii Recipe manga adaptation by Akira Hiyoshimaru.
