Wins Best Reprint award among comics "made by, for, and about people of color”

Del Rey Manga's first English-language volume of Akira Hiramoto's Me and the Devil Blues manga has won the Glyph Comic Award for Best Reprint Publication on Friday. The Glyph Comic Awards "recognize the best in comics made by, for, and about people of color from the preceding calendar year." Me and the Devil Blues is based on the life story of the legendary blues musician Robert Johnson in America during the Great Depression. In the manga's fictionalized account, "R.J." had to sell his soul to the devil to win his talent. David Ury translated and adapted the book into English. With his Bayou comic, Jeremy Love won five of the 10 awards presented at the East Coast Black Age of Comics Convention in Philadelphia.

The School Library Journal magazine named the same first volume of Me and the Devil Blues as one of the best adult books for high school students last December.
