Bokurano 1-Shot Spinoff Will Not Be Printed in Mag, Book

posted on by Egan Loo

Manga creator Mohiro Kitoh reported in a July 6 blog entry that his planned "Bokurano Tokubetsu-hen" one-shot spinoff manga will probably not be published in a compiled book volume, but it will still be published in the next issue of Shogakukan's Monthly Ikki magazine on July 25. However, his new July 14 blog entry has revealed that even Monthly Ikki will not publish the one-shot manga. Ikki had annnounced as recently as last month that Kitoh will draw the "Bokurano ~Mō Hitotsu no Bokurano~" story (pictured at right) to put his Bokurano characters in a "what-if" scenario. The main Bokurano manga story ended last month in Ikki.

The North American publisher Viz Media just revealed in May that it will release the Bokurano manga in its new online English version of Ikki magazine. Bokurano tells the story of 15 children who unsuspectedly agree to test a real-life robot battle — in which the ironic price of victory is death. The Bokurano manga inspired Gonzo's 2007 television anime series by the same name, although director Hiroyuki Morita acknowledged that he disliked the original manga and changed the story with the permission of Kitoh. Kitoh also created the Shadow Star Narutaru and Vendemiaire no Tsubasa manga. Dark Horse Comics released Shadow Star in North America.
