Tetsujin-28/Gigantor Robot Appears in Tokyo in NTT Ad

Not-So-Daily Link of the Day: The NTT Docomo mobile communications provider began airing a new television commercial featuring Mitsuteru Yokoyama's manga robot Tetsujin 28-go (Gigantor in English) on Saturday. (In the linked page, select "04 CMを見る! CM" menu option after the Flash opening ends.)
The commercial advertises Docomo's data communications service for personal computers by modernizing the remote control that a boy named Shōtarō Kaneda uses to "pilot" Tetsujin 28 in the manga. In the commercial, the grown-up businessman Shōtarō (Gokusen and Mei-chan no Shitsuji's Jutta Yūki) controls the robot in the Tokyo shopping district of Ginza by using a notebook computer equipped with Docomo's data communications adaptor. A live-action film version of the manga opened in 2005, and a "life-size," 18-meter-tall (59-foot-tall) statue was erected in Yokoyama's hometown of Kobe this year.

Update: NTT Docomo is operating a stall in Tokyo's Akihabara JR train station, in the Akihabara otaku shopping district, featuring the Tetsujin 28 promotion. The stall features an approximately 5-foot tall model of Tetsujin 28.
