Beck's Sakuishi to Launch Seven Shakespeare Manga

2010's second issue of Shogakukan's Big Comic Spirits magazine has announced on Monday that Beck manga creator Harold Sakuishi is launching a new manga called 7-nin no Shakespeare (Seven Shakespeare) in the next issue on December 21. This will be Sakuishi's first manga in a Shogakukan manga magazine.
As the name implies, the manga will deal with the "light and darkness" of the 16th-century London actor, playwright, and troupe manager known for the four great tragedies Hamlet, Macbeth, Othello, and King Lear, as well as Romeo and Juliet, The Merchant of Venice, and other masterpieces. Sakuishi did research on England for the manga, and Big Comic Spirits carries an interview with Sakuishi about England and other topics.
Hiro Mizushima, the 25-year-old star of the manga-based Absolute Boyfriend, Hana Zakari no Kimitachi e: Ikemen Paradise, and Lovely Complex projects, will headline a live-action film adaptation of Sakuishi's Beck rock-and-roll manga next year. The original manga ended in Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Magazine last year in Japan, and over 15 million copies of the 34 volumes have been published since it began in 1998. Tokyopop published the first 12 volumes in North America, and Funimation completed its release of 2004-2005's BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad anime version last year.
