Tono to Issho Adds Gackt Anime, Time of Eve Adds Pilot

Gackt to reprise Kenshin role; Rina Satō appears in Eve bonus

The video anime based on Ohba-Kai's Tono to Issho 4-panel historical gag manga will ship on March 25 with a bonus anime called "Gackt mo Issho." The manga follows the humorous exploits of generals during Japan's tumultuous sengoku (Era of the Warring States) period, and Gackt will make a special guest appearance as the legendary warlord Uesugi Kenshin in the anime version.

Not concidentally, Gackt played the same historical figure in the live-action drama Fūrinkazan and 2007's Kōhaku Uta Gassen ("Red and White Song Battle") competition. Director Mankyū said that he personally asked for Gackt because he "can't imagine anyone else as Uesugi Kenshin but Gackt!" The story of how the anime staff signed Gackt up will be recounted in the "Gackt mo Issho" bonus anime — with Gackt playing himself in the dubbing.

Theaters in Tokyo and Osaka will begin selling advance tickets for the Time of Eve film with a bonus DVD on Saturday. The Spring 2010 film will re-edit the six episodes of Yasuhiro Yoshiura's Time of Eve net anime series with new footage. The bonus DVD will contain about 10 minutes of video, including pilot footage, an interview with Nagi voice actress Rina Satō, and a special theatrical trailer.

Yoshiura and Studio Rikka — the creators of the Mizu no Kotoba and Pale Cocoon anime — developed this "non-hard science-fiction" story about everyday life in a future Japan populated by robots and life-like androids. The Crunchyroll website is streaming all six net episodes.
