Zettai Karen Children Manga Gets OVA Green-Lit

posted on by Egan Loo
2010 anime to feature supernatural comedy manga's middle school storyline

Next year's sixth issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine is announcing on January 6 that production on an original video anime adaptation of Takashi Shiina's Zettai Karen Children supernatural comedy manga has been green-lit. The video anime will ship in 2010 and feature the manga's middle school storyline.

The Zettai Karen Children manga centers around three girls who possess the world's strongest paranormal powers: Kaoru Akashi with psychokinesis, Aoi Nogami with teleportation, and Shiho Sannomiya with psychometry. BABEL — the "BAse of Backing ESP Laboratory" established by Japan's Ministry of Interior — attempts to convert "The Children" into a military special operations unit. To that end, BABEL saddles a hapless, powerless 20-year-old lieutenant named Kōichi Minamoto with the task of supervising/baby-sitting the three girls with Level 7 powers.

The manga has been running regularly in Weekly Shonen Sunday since 2005, and the 19th compiled volume is shipping this month. The 200th magazine installment is in Weekly Shonen Sunday's upcoming issue. The manga was already adapted into a television anime series that ran in 2008. Shiina's previous hit supernatural comedy manga, GS Mikami Gokuraku Daisakusen!!, was adapted into an anime series from 1993 to 1994.
