Watase Ends Sakura-Gari, Restarts Fushigi Yûgi: Genbu

Yuu Watase to replace Sakura-Gari manga with Genbu Kaiden in Rinka mag

Manga creator Yuu Watase ended her Sakura-Gari series in Shogakukan's Rinka magazine on January 4, and she later confirmed in a January 17 blog entry that she will resume her Fushigi Yûgi: Genbu Kaiden romance manga in the same magazine.

Watase had announced in June of 2008 that Shogakukan is ceasing publication of its Yuu Watase Perfect World Fushigi Yûgi magazine, and therefore Genbu Kaiden would move from that magazine to Monthly Flowers magazine. She also launched a new manga called Arata Kangatari in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in the fall of 2008. However, she announced in a March 2009 blog entry that Genbu Kaiden would not resume until spring of 2010. She cited her physical condition and her work schedule for Sakura-Gari and Arata Kangatari for Genbu Kaiden's delay.

Rinka, a magazine that publishes three to four times a year, had been serializing Sakura-Gari since its premiere issue in June of 2007. Viz Media published the original Fushigi Yûgi manga and the Absolute Boyfriend manga series in North America, and it published published the ninth and most recent volume of Genbu Kaiden in November.
