Yuu Watase, Kumiko Suekane, Hiroki Otsuka Interviewed

The Shonen Sunday website has posted an interview with manga creator Yuu Watase (Fushigi Yûgi, Absolute Boyfriend, Arata: The Legend). In the interview, Watase discussed why she chose to draw a shōnen manga, the differences and challenges in drawing a shōnen manga as compared to a shōjo manga, her work on Arata: The Legend, and her hobbies. Watase also commented on how her work on the Sakura-Gari boys-love manga was a turning point for her as an author.

Viz Media's Sigikki website has posted an interview with manga creator Kumiko Suekane (Afterschool Charisma, Once Upon a Glashma, Blood+ Adagio). In the interview, Suekane described her motivation for creating Afterschool Charisma, and how she created high-school personalities for famous historic figures. Suekane also discussed how she became a manga artist, and her career as a video game designer. Suekane concluded the interview with a message to her English-speaking fans.

The Japan Society of New York's website has posted an interview with Hiroki Otsuka, the manga artist who created the Boys of Summer title with Chuck Austen for Tokyopop, and is currently the Japan Society's "mangaka artist-in-residence." In the interview, Otsuka discussed his work as both a manga creator and artist and the difference between the two. He also discussed his childhood manga habits and the rigors of being a manga creator in Japan. Otsuka also discussed what he will do during his residency at the Japan Society. The Japan Society is hosting a live stream of Otsuka at work on an original manga this weekend.
