Kaiji Gambling Manga Gets 2nd TV Anime Series

posted on by Egan Loo
2nd TV anime based on Nobuyuki Fukumoto's manga to debut on April 5

This year's ninth issue of Kodansha's Young Magazine is announcing on Monday that a second television anime series based on Nobuyuki Fukumoto's gambling manga Kaiji will premiere on April 5 at 24:59 (effectively April 6 at 12:59 a.m.) The second anime series will air on the NTV network three years after the first anime aired. The new anime will adapt the "Chika Chinchiro" and "Pachinko Numa" stories from the Tobaku Hakairoku Kaiji manga series, which ran from 2000 to 2004.

The Joost website had streamed the 2007-2008 television anime series in the United States. The manga also inspired a 2009 live-action film with director Tōya Satō and Death Note star Tatsuya Fujiwara as the title gambler. That film has a sequel in the works for this year.

There have been three manga sequels since the original 1996-1999 Tobaku Mokushiroku Kaiji manga series ran in Young Magazine, including the ongoing Tobaku Datenshi-Roku Kaiji Kazuya-Hen. A second Kaiji pachinko machine is in the works, and the fifth book volume of the Kazuya-Hen series will ship on February 4.
