Gash/Zatch Bell Gets New 1-Shot Manga in March

Makoto Raiku to draw new story in his current home, Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine

Makoto Raiku will publish a new one-shot Konjiki no Gash!! side story in the April issue of Kodansha's Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine on March 9. The new manga story will celebrate the 10th anniversary reprint of the original Konjiki no Gash!! manga series in a smaller bunko format.

The original Konjiki no Gash!! series ran from 2001 to 2007 in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine. However, due to a lawsuit that Raiku won against Shogakukan over lost artwork, he decided he would never publish anything in any Shogakukan magazine again. Instead, he decided to publish his new works in Kodansha magazines.

The Konjiki no Gash!! manga series grew popular in part due to the anime adaptation titled Konjiki no Gash Bell!! (Zatch Bell in English) that debuted in 2003. The story follows the title character Gash (Zatch Bell), who wishes to become the kind king of demons (Mamodo). With Kiyo, his partner and the holder of his spell book, he fights against other demons in a tournament to become king.

Although the one-shot Konjiki no Gash!! manga is in Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine's April issue, Raiku will also continue his current series, Dōbutsu no Kuni (Land of the Animals, pictured at right), without a break.
